gamescom is where the video game industry gathers to showcase what's next. This year, one of the announcements out of Cologne is not a game or a platform feature. The Global Esports Federation (GEF), the world-convening body for esports, and Xsolla, a global commerce company, have signed a five-year partnership that puts a single commerce layer behind the full slate of GEF properties: the flagship Global Esports Games, the pro-series Global Esports Tour, GEFcon, and 180+ Member Federations across five continents. “Esports has outgrown the infrastructure underneath it. Athletes wait on prize money, federations run events on patchwork payment systems, and fans hit walls when they try to buy a ticket or a jersey from another region.”

The announcement comes as GEF marks 100 days to go before the Los Angeles 2026 Global Esports Games (GEGLA26), at which the partnership goes live this December. As GEF's exclusive partner for commerce, payments, wallet, loyalty, and distribution, Xsolla will operate the systems that move money into, through, and out of the federation's events across more than 200 markets. The gap underneath professional play Esports professionalized faster than the systems underneath it. Prize pools grew, broadcasts scaled, and national federations formed, but commercial operations stayed fragmented, assembled property by property and market by market. Game publishers worked through a version of this problem years ago, consolidating storefronts, payments, and player data into a single stack. Competitive esports largely has not. The results are familiar to anyone working within it: athletes waiting on prize payouts, federations running events on payment systems stitched together country by country, and fans who cannot complete a purchase because a storefront does not support their local payment method. Xsolla is taking the infrastructure it operates as Merchant of Record for more than 1,500 game teams across 200+ countries and pointing it at the organizations that now govern competitive play. Three systems, one commerce layer The partnership covers three areas of the GEF business. The first is commerce: purchasing, distribution, and management of digital goods, event ticketing, merchandise, registrations, and membership fees, running across more than 1,000 local payment methods.
The second is the GEF Wallet, a white-label wallet Xsolla will build and operate inside GEFx. It disburses athlete prize money through local payout rails with currency conversion, backed by full KYC and AML screening, and it supports fan wallets and treasury rails for Member Federations. For an athlete, that is the difference between a payout that arrives and one that is still in process.
The third is GEF Rewards, a loyalty program that fans use to earn and redeem points across the Global Esports Games, the Global Esports Tour, GEFx, and GEF's digital channels, so engagement in one property carries over to the next rather than resetting at every border.
Six priority markets a year The partnership also establishes a joint Global Expansion Program targeting at least six priority markets each year. The early focus spans the Middle East, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, as well as Tier 1 economies, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, India, South Korea, and China. Xsolla will resource the program through its regional hubs in Los Angeles, Dubai, and Switzerland, working with GEF headquarters and Member Federations to build government, host-city, and private-sector partnerships in each market. What it looks like in Los Angeles GEGLA26 in December is where the partnership stops being an announcement. In Los Angeles, the partners will debut the official partnership designation alongside a commerce showcase running in production, covering digital goods, ticketing, merchandise, wallet, and rewards, plus an athlete prize disbursement showcase through the GEF Wallet, joint executive programming, and a co-hosted industry reception drawing on the Xsolla network and GEF delegations. Infrastructure as the point “The Global Esports Federation was founded to connect the world through esports, and that ambition needs real infrastructure behind it: payments that work in every market, prize money that reaches every athlete, and rewards that follow fans across every property,” said Sir Paul J. Foster, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Global Esports Federation. Xsolla brings that infrastructure, along with a network of thousands of studios and partners, to GEF's 180+ Member Federations.

That framing also explains why GEF is the first esports organization Xsolla has integrated its payments, loyalty, and rewards products with, according to Rytis Joseph Jan, Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Government Relations at Xsolla, who pointed to shared ground on building platforms and experiences for the wider video game community as the reason the two organizations lined up.

Where it starts For the next five years, Xsolla is the commerce, payments, wallet, loyalty, and distribution partner behind every GEF property, from the Global Esports Games and the Global Esports Tour to GEFcon and the Member Federations competing under the GEF banner. The work begins in Los Angeles. GEGLA26 runs in Los Angeles this December.
