What hasn’t changed, though, since our launch in 2005, is our conviction that everyone deserves equal opportunity to play.
Our first product enabled video gamers in Russia to buy in-game goods with cash. At the time, thousands of players were being left out of the full gaming experience, and Xsolla’s nationwide chain of outlets gave them ways in.
Xsolla grew in those early years by operating regional small and medium payment systems across Russia, expanding players’ and makers’ access to the rapidly expanding gaming market. Our business began to reflect what players already knew: gaming joins people across space, time, and cultures. And when people come together, they can create astounding change.
The team recognized their unique chance — responsibility, even — to connect the technological and artistic ideas emerging from Russia, Asia, and the United States. Making a Russian video gaming powerhouse had appeal (after all, who doesn’t have a little hometown pride?). But creating the best opportunities for everyone mattered more.
