Mobile Game Commerce solution empowers gaming giant to move into new regions and accept new forms of payment.

NetEase is one of the largest video game and internet companies in the world. Not only does it develop and operate PC and mobile games, but the company also manages localized versions of Blizzard Entertainment’s tentpole titles in China, like Overwatch and Hearthstone. They also own investment stakes in well-known game developers Bungie and Quantic Dream.

Xsolla was honored when NetEase contacted us about expanding its new mobile titles and helping them connect with alternative payment methods. NetEase was already well-established in SEA but wanted to expand its games to South Korea and beyond. Additionally, the goal was to provide customer flexibility by adding local forms of online payment solutions, including those that operate without credit cards.

Solution

By partnering with Xsolla and utilizing the Mobile Game Commerce solution, NetEase was granted scalable access to 700+ pre-integrated payment methods worldwide, with access in 200+ countries, all through a single API connection.

Result

This integration allowed NetEase to add Korea-specific options to their payment page, giving customers the ability to use payments such as KakaoPay, TOSS, and even local gift cards like Culture Land, Cashbee, Book Voucher, and Happymoney to top up their game accounts.


By expanding its payment options with Xsolla, NetEase avoids dealing with the regulations and taxes associated with these payments on its own, especially in South Korea and Japan, where there are strict government taxation laws.

On top of that, the infrastructure we have provided is now in place and can deploy quickly and easily to any number of additional games now or in the future.
